Michigan Proclaims October 30 - November 6th 2006 as Project Management Week
Lansing, MI, USA, October 30 2006 – In recognition of Michigan’s capable project managers working to promote economic growth and enhance services and products, Executive Office of Governor Granholm issued a Proclamation(PDF) for Project Management Week from October 30 to November 5, 2006.
In the Proclamation Governor Granholm noted that no group has had a larger impact on building a new Michigan than project managers, who played an integral role in the construction of such noteworthy landmarks as the Renaissance Center, Comerica Park, the Compuware Building, staging Superbowl XL, and implementing the Child Support Enforcement System. Governor emphasized that these dedicated professionals and their teams exemplify the importance of leadership, cooperation, creativity, innovation, and perseverance.
Whether it is a 100-story skyscraper rising magically from the ground, or a tiny cell phone packing so many intriguing high-tech features it cannot be accomplished without project management. In a nutshell, project management provides organizations with the knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to plan and execute projects on time and on budget. Project Managers are the dedicated professionals trained to apply these skills according to Project Management Institute(PMI®) standards and body of knowledge.
Many PMI Components have planned activities focused around the International Project Management Day on November 2, 2006. The Great Lakes Chapter of PMI has led the effort in Michigan. The Michigan Great Lakes, Michigan Huron Valley, Michigan Capitol Area, Michigan Thumb, and Western Michigan Chapters of the Project Management Institute (PMI) will concentrate their efforts on promoting project management. These will include worldwide “webinar” and presentations to high school seniors on project management as a career.
During (and following) Project Management Week, Michigan Chapters of PMI will coordinate presentations by individual members to High School Seniors focusing on project management as a career choice and what emphasis should be followed in college to support that. The project manager for this activity is Gil Rollins.
Most likely, students have already been involved in different types of projects.
Whether it was participating in sports, organizing a group function, publishing
a newsletter, making a presentation, or entering a local competition, students
were involved in project management. Why not to consider this as your future
profession, and start planning your career early?

To celebrate International Project Management Day in the business world, one major high tech company in Austin will issue an internal proclamation and host an ice cream social along with a white paper presentation on the “Value of Certifications”.

Arkansas proclaims November 2, 2006 as Project Management Day
Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee has proclaimed November 2, 2006 as Project Management Day in Arkansas (PDF). Local chapter officers were invited to meet the Governor in honor of the presentation.
Penny
Rubow is preparing letters to the managers and directors of PMO's in Arkansas
to encourage them to recognize the contributions of project managers on November
2nd. I'll be suggesting various ways of recognizing the project managers
in their organizations. One of the local organizations is making plans to
host a breakfast for their PM's, another is planning a lunch.
Finally, the Local PMI chapter is having a Professional Development Day the 24th of October where we will begin the day with a reading of the proclamation and the afternoon break will feature special refreshments around the theme of Project Management day.
