2010 - IPM Day Events

PMI UK Chapter

The PMI UK Chapter held their fifth International Project Management (IPM) Day Conference on Thursday, 4th November 2010 in London. The theme was "COMPLEX PROJECTS - ELEGANT SOLUTIONS". The conference looked at the main types and causes of project complexity, and project management theories and practice aimed at addressing them. The keynote speaker was Peter Taylor. 

 

The PMI UK Chapter is planning an even larger event, called Synergy 2011, next year.  Web site.

 

Shure Incorporated

For 2010, Shure organized an internal group called PM Forum – with a mission “To improve project efficiency and effectiveness at Shure through sharing of project management knowledge, standards, and best practices.” In conjunction with IPM Day on November 4, 2010 the topic was “Put It on the Map.” They introduced the concept of Mind Maps to participants and demonstrated techniques for brainstorming and problem solving. PMI Zagreb Croatia

The PMI Chapter Croatia, branch office Osijek held an International Project Management day event on Thursday, 4th November 2010. The host presentation by Siemens Osijek. There als was an overview of recent branch office activities and plans for next year by Nenad Bestvina, PMP, a talk on the "Systematic approach to the management of small projects by Boris Bajtl, IPMA, and "Psychological types in project lifecycle by Ivan Matejašić, PMP. Sacramento Valley PMI Chapter

The Sacramento Valley PMI Chapter 2010 IPM Day event was an evening meeting at the Doubletree Hotel with two presentations: John Soltesz, PMP, Delegata Corporation, who presented "The Challenges of Project Management in the Middle East" and Kenneth Hartley, PMP, Program Management, who presented on "International High Speed Rail Projects". San Fransisco Bay PMI Chapter

To celebrate IPM Day 2010 the San Fransisco Bay PMI Chapter held a full day event at the Hotel Nikko San Francisco, Ca. The day included speakers Neal Whitten, Tana Goertz, and Michelle LaBrosse. Web site.

 

PMI Budapest, Hungarian Chapter

The PMI Budapest chapter celebrated 2010 IPM Day with a half-day event including five speakers. The theme was "The European Union's role in project management more efficient and effective use of resources". Web site.

 

Alamo, TX PMI Chapter

The Alamo, TX PMI Chapter hosted a Professional Development Day on IPM Day 2010. The keynote speaker was Frank Saladis (founder of IPM Day). Other presenters were Traci Duez, Howard Smallowitz, and Michael Airaudi. Web site.

 

PMI New Zealand Chapter

The Central Branch of the PMI New Zealand Chapter held a social networking evening for PMI members and their guests at the St. James Theatre in Wellington. The event was organized in conjunction with with the International Institute of Business Analysts, to celebrate an agreement for future collaboration between the two organisations. PMI South Africa, Johannesburg Branch

In celebration of IPM Day 2010 the PMI South Africa Chapter hosted a meeting to promote and to say thank you to all our members and to appreciate the hard work and dedication to project management. Web site.

 

PMI, Lagos Nigeria Chapter

PMI Lagos Nigeria kicked off their 2010 IPMD celebration on Nov. 2nd with a series of two-day and three-day seminars. They also had a premier awards gala coinciding with the celebration of Nigeria’s 50th anniversary, to recognize and honour contributions and achievements in the project management field in Nigeria. The gala culminated with an unveiling of the PMI Lagos Nigeria’s Project of the Year. Web site.

 

Metro St Louis PMI Chapter

In 2010 the Metro St. Louis PMI Chapter celebrated International Project Management Day for their 2nd time. The celebration was held at Whitaker Hall, Washington University. The evening included a program of fun, prizes, presentations and networking. It also included honors for Outstanding Projects and Project Managers. International Institute of Learning (IIL) IPM Day Virtual Conference

For 2010 IIL hosted a free virtual event: "The Power of the Profession," which brought in over 13,000 registrants worldwide. Speakers for the event included Dr. Harold Kerzner and Gregory Balestrero, as well as other experts and thought leaders from all sides of the Project Management industry. The live virtual event enabled thousands of participants worldwide to interact with the presenters in virtual booths and view videos of on-demand presentations in the resource center. The roster of presenters included: Dr. Harold Kerzner; Gregory Balestrero - CEO of the Project Management Institute; E. LaVerne Johnson - Founder, President and CEO of IIL; Frank P. Jamiaca Doctor Bird Chapter

"Project Management for Transformation" was the theme for our International Project Management Day - Nov 4, 2010. We celebrated at an Awards Breakfast, where National Commercial Bank won the Organization of the year 2010- Jamiaca. We had a good turn-out and a great line-up of nominees, speakers and some real good Jamaica food. Web site.

 

PMI Chapter in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe activities to mark the 2010 IPM Day were at the Harare Poly hosted by the Harare Chapter on Saturday 6th November 2010, where intake 4 COCPM training was happening. Henry Mkwananzi, the only PMP in Zimbabwe, presented a paper on "International qualifications in project management".

 

PMP Interactive Consulting

A free interative webinar was led by Elaine Jackson, BS, PMP of PMP Interactive Consulting on the topic of "Can your work status (Contrator vs Full-time Employee) make a huge difference in your ability to gain faster success on projects at risk." Web site.

Intrinsic Management Services

In Amman, Jordan Intrinsic Management Services hosted a fee IPM Day event at the Friendship Hall - Princess Sumaya University for Technology. The event covered the following topics: "Profile of a Successful Project Manager", "Is Project Management for me?", "I’m a PMP…. Now what? What’s next?", "Organizational PM (Program, Portfolio , PMO, OPM3)", "PathPro: Enhancing Competency", "PM Specializations (Risk, Schedule, Communication, Quality)", and "My 2011 Improvement Roadmap". City of La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA

Mayor Matt Harter made a proclamation for the city of La Crosse declaring November 4, 2010 as International Project Management Day, and asked that all residents recognize the valuable contributions of Project Managers in the City of La Crosse and throughout the Coulee Region.

 

The Project Management Podcast

On the week of IPM Day 2010, the Project Management Podcast posted a 20-minute interview with Frank P. Saladis, PMI (the founder of IPM Day) hosted by . The PM Podcast is a free audio program, hosted by Cornelius Fichtner, which enjoys a listenership of over 10,000.  The topic discussed was the origination of IPM Day and the vision for it in the future. Alcatel-Lucent

Alcatel-Lucent celebrated International Project Management Day for its 4th consecutive time in 2010 by running a Symposium for its entire PM community. The webinar event was presented live, but because of the global nature of the business and also because “the world is always on”, the IPM Day Symposium is recorded for ongoing replay. Speakers came from inside Alcatel-Lucent as well as from Harvard University extension, PMI, and external consultants. Topics were as diverse as "Web 2.0 and corporate PMs", "A new career path model (for Project Management and beyond", "The value of project management", and "Sustainability’s role in project management and vice-versa".


In addition to the presentations, short “commercials” were held between presentations which made attendees aware of functions and support within the company to assist PMs in their work. About 280 attended live and over 500 registered to take the Symposium via replay. Overall Alcatel-Lucent expects to approach 1000 attendees by the time the next Symposium arrives in November 2011. The PMI New Jersey Chapter held a 2010 IPM Day Seminar that was attended by over 500 people. The Opening Keynote by Lothar Katz was on the Secrets of Successful International Project Leaders. A session was presented by Brandi Moore on "A Road Map for the International Project Manager: Cultural Strategies for the BRIC Countries" and another by Kevin R. Wegryn on "Managing Without Walls". International Project Management Day Special Event in Geneva Nov. 17th and in Zurich on Nov. 18th. Eugene Bounds, PMP®, Chairman of PMI Board of Directors, who is came from the US exclusively to meet members of the Swiss Project Management Community, presented a peek in the future with "Overview of the global perspective on Project Management, its Value and Future trends". Also guest speaker Peter Taylor will present his concept and best selling book The Lazy Project Manager, giving a new insight and perspective on our roles and ways of practicing Project Management. PMINL held its annual Project Management Symposium: Adapting Project Leadership, a daylong session of project management presentations, on Nov 2, 2010 to coincide with IPM Day. Frank Saladis was the keynote speaker. Web site.

 

Project Management Business Learning Centre of St. Petersburg, Russia

The event sponsored by the Institute for Enterprise Issues,Consulting group "TIM", and Microsoft, was held on Nov. 12, 2010. The program included topics such as the "Integration of information products in a project management system in companies", "The implementation of projects and the effectiveness of project teams in various industries", and "The value of project management for business and society".
